About us
Melis River is being created in Nové Město nad Metují, a smaller picturesque town in the northeast of Bohemia, where I live with my Australian Shepherd bitch, Cayapó. It was our life together, our work, my experience and my gradually developing view of the breed that gave rise to the whole idea.
The name Melis River subtly connects the Metuje River, which surrounds our town and which, for me and for our everyday life, is a natural symbol of the place we come from, with the mythical explanation of how its name originated. According to this theory, the first settlers who came to this land exclaimed, “Honey is here!” (honey = miel/mel) in amazement at the fertility and abundance of the area they had settled. And indeed, even today our walks along the river are accompanied by the quiet buzzing of wild bees and the sweet scent of honey. This trace of honey gradually became part of the entire identity of Melis River.
